It’s All about Christ!
12/15 Reading Portions: 2 Chronicles 17; Revelation 6; Zechariah 2; John 5
“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about Me,” John 5:39
JESUS
When Jesus said this to the religious Jews who objected to Him healing an invalid on the Sabbath day, the Lord Jesus was merely explaining what David wrote of Him in the psalms: “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me: I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your law is within my heart’” (Psa 40:7-8). This truth is one of the most important truths in the Bible— it’s all about Jesus! The heavens and earth were created to bring God glory through Christ (John 1:3; Phil 2:9-11; Heb 1:2); and Christ’s death upon the cross is God’s crowning achievement; the central truth in the entire universe for all eternity (1 Cor 2:2; Phil 2:5-8).
When we fail to see Jesus Christ in the Word of God, it is evident just how much we need God’s grace. When our minds cannot faithfully be renewed with the understanding of Christ’s faithfulness as a Man, His submission in suffering God’s judgment, and His constant delight in His Father’s will and His way, we must recognize our utter need of the Lord Jesus. While we are yet in these mortal and perishable bodies of flesh, we will never comprehend completely (Phil 3:10) or apprehend fully (Phil 3:12-13) all the details. Have you ever asked yourself this question— “Are my thoughts constantly upon the Father and the Son every instant of every day since I’ve been saved?” —and answered honestly? There was not a moment during His incarnation when Jesus didn’t have a faithful thought about His heavenly Father and the Father’s perfect will (John 5:30). This is why we rejoice in Christ. He did what we cannot do in mortal, fallen flesh— though we are saved by grace. This is by glorious and eternal design. It keeps us trusting upon Christ’s person and finished work, and not upon the work of our own hands or the intellect of our feeble minds.
All the Scriptures testify of
Our Master, Christ the Lord;
His truth on earth’s from heav’n above,
Fulfilling God’s pure Word.
